This
video has proved so fascinating to me that I consider it a continual work
in progress, which I have been unable to leave alone since I first began
working on it in 1988. Every time I think it is finished I find myself
compelled to add, subtract, embed, cut, copy, and dub new material into
it, as an always evolving collage.

This
video is a way to show my work in its full dimensions, combining my roles
as a sound sculptor, a musician and a videographer. It is based primarily
on my own visual interpretations of a poem by the Canadian writer Margaret
Atwood, evoking a dialog dealing with the culture of militarism. A human
cast, consisting of one performer, a dear friend Jim Blachly, combines
with two sound sculptures to make up the characters in the video. The
sequences filmed in the studio are then mixed with short segments drawn
from television. The sound track is produced by mixing sounds produced
by the sculptures with the voices of the performer and two readers, Maria
Gonzales and Chichi Perez, mixed on home-made four-track recorder.
